Walking on Baker beachWalking on Baker beach

San Francisco the city of four seasons in one day. The sudden rain showers meant that frequent café stops were very much necessary. Luckily SF has no shortage of cute coffee (and boba) stores! As we went in February, it was still quite cold, so I guess this is the Winter guide to SF! More excuse to go back in warmer weather and catch those pink blooms on all the houses!

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is like the Eiffel Tower of SF. If you don’t get a picture there, did you even really go? My favorite places for that coveted shot are:

  • Baker Beach (see cover photo)
  • Battery Spencer
  • It can get very windy here, I thought I was going to get blown off the top of the cliff – see picture in carousel below!IMG_3676.jpg

For healthy food in an insanely instagrammable setting, head to Cafe Reveille. There are a few locations of this cute cafe, but Mission Bay one is probably the cutest! There is a selection of lattes, ranging from traditional coffee, to matcha and turmeric!

16th Street Steps

The 16th Avenue Tiled Steps are beautiful colorful mosaic stairs leading to the golden gate heights neighbourhood. The mosaics start with sea and marine life at the bottom of the stairs, as you ascend into the sky you are literally walking on the clouds towards the moon and sun. It’s a perfect backdrop for photos as the mosaics are pretty and there is even light distribution. Bonus is the view of SF from the top of the stairs!

Near the 16th street stairs, there are also stairs to the secret garden which is quite pretty with scenes from .. a garden! (but the lighting is hard there, as it’s in shadow most of the day , flanked by houses and tall trees, and i struggled to get a good picture that was properly exposed – especially as it was also raining)

The Presidio

The Presidio, is a 1,500-acre park on a former military post, with beautiful forest areas, miles of trails, rugged beaches and scenic views of the city and the golden gate bridge. However, I specifically like the cliffs in the Presidio boasting scenic views of the bridge. Which is still lovely, despite how grey the day was when I went. The cliffs feel a little off the (well beaten) tourist path.

Palace of Fine Arts

The Palace of Fine Arts was originally constructed fto exhibit artwork during the 1915 Panama-Pacifc Exposition. Now what remains is an artificial lagoon and a pergola with tall golden columns constructed in the style of a Roman ruin. I think the light here is very nice at Sunset as the columns catch the warm glow of the skies makes for nice photos.
